Helmets

The series of helmets are my reaction to the devolution I see in our society. Their origins are armor from Roman times and the Middle Ages, which while advanced civilization on certain levels, were times of extreme brutality as well. The helmet is ostensibly a means for protection, but via it's design, another function is to intimidate and threaten on a psychological level. I sense our society more fractured than ever with intimidation, bullying, anger, the cult of macho and the use of threats becoming ever increasing and acceptable. Some of the helmets have eye slots only, they see but do not speak, while others have no eye slots, only mouth openings. They speak, but cannot see, with both conditions relating to the individual in the times we live in. Because of the material in which they are constructed, clay, in the end they afford no protection to the wearer.
